Upcoming Schedule

New to running? Returning after a long pause or injury? All of our runs are designed to cater for a mixed range of abilities, and all paces and fitness levels are welcome.

Thursday, 25th June
  • Time: Run starts at 6.45pm. Meet from 6.30pm onwards.
  • Meeting point: The World’s End, Arundel Road, Patching BN13 3UQ (Google Maps)
  • Parking: Free parking in both the pub car park or on the road.

Something a bit different this week! Our trail-running guru, Bryan, has kindly put together two courses (7.7km and 13km) for us to run, using only printed course descriptions to guide you (i.e. no run leaders or GPX files!). In teams of 4-5 ish, we will set you off in staggered starts with a set of instructions to see how you get on! If you’re able to, please consider bringing your phone with you this week, just in case there’s a problem and you end up in Horsham!

Tuesday, 30th June
  • Time: 6.30pm (for a 6.45pm start)
  • Meeting Point: The Gallops, Worthing BN13 3DE (Google Maps)
  • Parking: Free nearby car parks at Honeysuckle Lane and Bost Hill, or residential parking on Vale Drive and surrounding roads.

Emily to ead a session of the dreaded zig-zags! But don’t worry, there’s plenty of different ways to tweak the session to avoid them, only do some, or whatever.

The session will be two lots of twelve minutes:

  • First 12 minutes: Field Loops. You’ll run continuously around a rectangular loop, working a hard effort on the incline and the bottom; active recovery on the decline and at the top.
  • Second 12 minutes: Zig Zags. Hard effort on the way up the zig zag, walk/jog/cardiac arrest on the way back down.
July
Wednesday, 1St JuLy
  • Time: 7.30pm start
  • Meeting Point: Steyning Bowling Green, outside the Cricket Club. Charlton Street, Steyning BN44 3LE (Google Maps)
  • Parking: This is a notouriously difficult one for parking. Would advise arriving early. There’s residential parking or a car park on the High Street, near the start line.
  • Route: About 10K. The race begins at the Clock Tower in Steyning High Street and heads west up Mouse Lane. After 2 to 3 miles of progressively steeper climbing up to the top of the South Downs Way, the athletes run along the SDW and make a long steep descent (down the Beeches) to return through the old Rifle Range to finish in the Memorial Field.
  • Cost: £5 in advance, closing 10pm on the Saturday 27th June.
Thursday, 2nd July
Beach Run @ Coast
  • Time: Run starts at 6.45pm. Meet from 6.30pm onwards.
  • Meeting Point: Coast Cafe, Beach Parade, Worthing BN11 2FG (Google Maps)
  • Parking: I think parking is free on Marine Parade (outside the Rowing Club) after 6pm. Please double check for yourselves though!
  • Routes: No formal routes, but the plan is to do an hour’s run. In our usual groups, run in one direction for 30 minutes, and then turn back.
  • Footwear: The tide is out, so we’ll be running along the sand. Thoroughly recommend wearing some tatty old shoes that you don’t mind getting wet and dirty, and some dry socks for afterwards!
  • Optional drink afterwards in Coast
Sunday, 12th JuLy
  • Time: 10.30am start
  • Meeting Point: Steyning Bowling Green, outside the Cricket Club. Charlton Street, Steyning BN44 3LE (Google Maps)
  • Parking: The car park is to the right as you arrive at the clubhouse. There is limited parking available so please car share where possible, be considerate when parking and follow the directions of the volunteers. Please note the venue now charges for parking. Parking can be paid via the Your Parking Space app at a cost of £2.99 per day.
  • Route: The course is approximately 10 kilometres along public bridleways and footpaths. The ground consists of chalk with flint exposed and grass. It is very uneven, especially in the first 2 kilometres where there are deep tractor ruts often containing water. On the return, the field at 8K is badly pitted by cattle hooves on a moderate downhill gradient. At the beginning of the race, there is a steep gradient and sharp right turn after which the climbs are less severe. There is a second steep gradient after approx. 5 kilometres, out of Saddlescombe Farm, where water is available. The course will be marked by kilometre signs (approx. distances only) and direction arrows. It is likely that the uneven terrain and styles will produce reduced race times.
  • Cost: £5 in advance, closing 10pm on Tuesday 7th July.
